The A Venue Hotel Suites

Location: The location is GREAT!!! I can’t stess this enough, it’s right in Makati City, near the Burgos St nightlife, near many restaurants, bars, nightlife, and plenty of shopping can be done at the mall next door, also, many malls within a short taxi ride distance
Facilities: There is a wide range of facilities at A.Venue Hotel Suites, like the Grand Ballroom (Via Veneto), business center, internet and wi-fi facilities, it has a really nice and big infinity pool, a kids activity pool, indoor game room, funcion rooms, the Stresscape Spa, Granvia Cafe, a library, and also a gym and fitness center. So if you are in the mood for drinks, eats, exercise, swim, or working, there is something at A.Venue for everyone!! Not to mention there is the little mall right next door!
The Staff:
The Room: The room was great, very nice value, I had the 1 bedroom suite, with kitchen, living room and it’s stylish, it has a modern style and feel, I liked it a lot and I will plan on staying there on my next trip to Manila
Extras:
Tip: Book through Agoda if you want to get the best discounted price
Negatives: A Venue, sometimes housekeeping/room service doesn’t answer the phone, this can be pretty annoying if you are hungry or need a fresh set of towels. When this happens just call front desk and they will help you.

Weekend getaway to Subic Bay (Olongapo)

Monday, March 15th, 2010

This past weekend we decided to get outside of the traffic and make our way to the beaches of Subic Bay and Olongapo. We arrived there and stayed 1 night in Subic Park Hotel (link), it was ok, but a little bit too quiet for our taste. We ate at Daddy Eds restaurant, it’s open 24 hours/day which is nice and it’s good food to have right there on the beach.

The following day, Saturday, we transferred to the Blue Rock Resort (link) and we liked this area MUCH better, the Blue Rock Hotel and Resort has great food open 24hrs/day and at night they have a live band that is very pleasant, really soothing style of band, almost like a karaoke band that is just very good, not loud. There is a floating bar, great to go during the day, you can eat, drink ice cold beers, and go jetskiing and swimming all right there at Blue Rock!

We even took a nice day trip over to White Rock Resort (link), they have 2 wave pools, and waterslides, and also on the beach, it was nice as the sun went down, the sunset picture I have there is from White Rock Resort beach area.

And if you love tacos then I suggest eating the biggest taco in the world, there at Coffee Shop Tacos (link) they have MASSIVE tacos!!!!

Duck Inn Bar and Hotel
Open 24hrs
website: http://www.duckinnmanila.com
Call: (632) 523-3995
Address: 1207 M.H. Del Pilar Street, Ermita, Metro Manila, Philippines

The Duck Inn Hotel was established in 2002 by Australians David Thomson and Douglas Green. It features polished wooden floors, a Western sports bar , restaurant with billiard tables and multiple channels of satellite sports and news, all is open 24 hours/day everyday. The hotels reception bar and restaurant is situated on the ground floor with the accommodation on the 1st and 2nd floors. The 13 rooms are all equipped with queen size bed, cable TV, air conditioning, mini bar and safety vault. The rooms are all very cheap, at only 1300 – 1600 php per night.

Location:I actually like this location, it’s right across the street from the Hobbit House (a famous restaurant/bar with all little midgets working as waitresses), and it’s in the heart of Malate, lots of 7-11’s, bars, Korean and Japanese restaurants, and tons of little sorry-sorry shops.
Facilities: Duck Inn has some decent accommodations, with Queen size beds, cable TV, safety deposit box, air conditioning, and free wifi internet in every room
The Staff: The staff was fun and friendly, we had great conversation and a few laughs
The Room: The room was not bad, the tv was up high in the air on a stand and the bed was decent, BUT there were tons of cockroaches
Extras: Free wifi internet in the rooms
Tip:
Negatives: My room had tons of cockroaches, I watched as 1 of them went onto my toothbrush :(

Makati Palace Hotel

Makati Palace Hotel
“Your Royal Address”
Open 24hrs
website: http://www.makatipalacehotel.com.ph
Call: (632) 899-0344
Address: 5011 P. Burgos Corner Caceres St., Makati City, Philippines

Makati Palace hotel is located with the Makati Central Business District, places it at the center of leisure, dining, entertainment venues, international business centers, upscale specialty shops, and convention centers. Makati Palace Hotel is the modern businessman’s (note: MAN/MENS) address in spectacular cosmopolitan Makati (walking distance to Rockwell Center and Power Plant Mall). Their elegant, fully furnished guestrooms are designed to give comfort, convenience and style.

Location: Makati Palace is in a great location if you are in a mood for lots of eating, drinking, and bar hopping to girly bars, gentlemens clubs, it’s located right on Paul Burgos St. which is famous for it’s great nightlife and girly bars.
Facilities: They have a business center, Caesar’s Coffeeshop with wifi, Formosa Spa, Beniya Authentic Japanese Restaurant, Club Nyx KTV Bar, swimming pool (closes too early, at 7pm) and the Palace Gym, foreign currency exchange, safety deposit boxes, room service, and they have just about anything you’ll need for business or holiday
The Staff: The Makati Palace Hotel staff has always been nice, but I’ve heard of stories of them assuming and treating the girl dates, or girlfriends, wives all as bargirls
The Room: I stayed in the Superior room, it was pretty disappointing, the aircon sucked and the room just looked ugly and dark, old. It had an empty fridge, good because I go 7/11 across the road and load up on cheap drinks, waters, and such. The thing is, if you buy from agoda.com you can get that room for cheap, only $47 usd
Extras: On the 2nd floor of Makati Palace hotel is the delightful Formosa Massage & Spa. It’s an open 24 hours spa, massage, jacuzzi and sauna, for reservactions call 02-483-9469. Please note, you can NOT sign your charges to your room, you must pay on the spot
Tip: Do NOT stay in Makati Palace if you are looking for a quiet night in Manila/Makati. If you’d like to relax and watch dvds, you can rent the dvd player for 500 pesos
Negatives: Using the wifi there is expensive, and if you are staying at a high floor, they have dialup only available, yes, dialup is still around I guess LOL, I highly suggest investing in Smart Bro or Globe Tattoo. Also, it’s great they have bathtubs, but the water doesn’t get very hot, so, taking a luke warm bath doesn’t really feel to great.

New Solanie Hotel

New Solanie Hotel
Open 24hrs
website: none
Call: (632) 524-8641
Address: 1811 Leon Guinto St. Malate, Manila 1004 Philippines

The New Solanie Hotel, Malate Manila, is located in the center of the district of Malate where there are many bars and restaurants. The hotel is accessible to all major transportation routes (but I find it difficult to get a taxi sometimes). This hotel has few facilities and services and medium sized rooms that are simply decorated and practical. The New Solanie Hotel is a good choice for budget travellers.

Location:
Facilities: They have 24hr room service and laundry service.
The Staff:
The Room: The room is best described as “good enough” there is a bed, a tv and a bathroom, the shower didn’t have much hot water and I’ve seen a few bugs in the rooms too but nothing serious.
Extras: Free wifi internet in the lobby / restaurant area

Call: (632) 303-6572
Address: 1711 M.Adriatico St., Malate Manila, Philippines 1004

Stargate Pensionne is a nice little place for staying a couple nights, rates are decent from 988 – 2488 php per night, they supposedly have WIFI in all rooms but the night I was there, or the room I was in, did NOT have internet, I was very disappointed about that. It was nice to walk down to the bars everynight, the Malate nightlife is right outside the door.

Location: Stargate is nice location walking distance to many great korean and japanese restaurants, Robinsons Mall, a casino, and lots of nightlife too, Bedrock and lots more bars nearby walking distance
Facilities: Stargate doesn’t have much for facilities, they have an internet station in the lobby and a small restaurant/bar
The Staff: The staff gets the job done, and are friendly usually
The Room: The room is just a room with a bed, nothing special at all, my room didn’t even have any windows hehe
Extras: No extras that I noticed here

City Garden Hotel Makati

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

City Garden Hotel Makati
Open 24hrs
website: http://www.citygardenhotels.com
Call: (632) 899-1111
Address: Makati cor. Kalayaan Avenues, Makati City

City Garden Hotel is 1 of the best value hotels I’ve ever experienced in the Manila Luzon area. With all the facilities, restaurant, gym, rooftop bar and swimming pool (has a jacuzzi inside the pool) and great views of Manila city from the gym/swimming pool. We even have a small sauna and a spa here. Great value hotel! Room prices from $64 to $92 per night.

Location: Located in the heart of Makati’s nightlife district, Burgos Street is right around the corner, a 1 minute walk from the entrance of City Garden, lots of 24 hour restaurants, go go bars aka gentlemens clubs, 1 nightclub, lots of 7/11 and laundry shops, internet cafes and many pizza places nearby too, Dominos, Pizza Hut etc. Very good location!
Facilities: Nice gym, swimming pool, jacuzzi, whirlpool, sauna and restaurant
The Staff: The staff here has always been super friendly, wishing me happy birthday wishes, hooking me up with free internet cards (shhhh secret!!).
The Room: I stay in the deluxe room, costs $74usd/night. My room consists of a half kitchen, water boiler with complimentary bottled water, coffee, tea, has a couch, an older but decent size tv. The bed is nice size and very comfortable. I even have a small couch and 2 desks. The bathrooms have a tub/shower, good counter space too, gotta love that
Extras: Sometimes you can get a 1 hour free internet card, and if you’re nice maybe they’ll hook you up with a free 24/hr internet card :)

Tip: When you walk outside City Garden take a left go towards Burgos Street and there is a little laundry place there called “Lets Talk Dirty” laundry and cleaning services, I paid only 180 pesos for 2.8 kilos of laundry, can save you like 5x’s compared to paying the hotel laundry prices. Just a tip for you
Negatives: The internet here is VERY bad, sometimes you can go hours with it being fine, but then you get logged off for hours at a time, either the network goes down, or their 3rd party internet company is having issues.
Also, today I had to wait for 30 minutes in the gym, til somebody could assist me, I need a locker key, towel, and to turn on the sauna. I hate to talk about the negatives but I want to give a great unbiased review, I will cover the goods AND the bads
